Rope Recycling Program

Rope Recycling Program

At Monod Sports, we're excited to announce that we are now a drop-off location for Sterling Ropes' dynamic rope recycling program. This innovative program offers a sustainable solution for disposing of old climbing ropes, giving them new life in various forms.

What is the Rope Recycling Program?

Sterling Ropes, a leader in climbing rope technology, launched the first dynamic rope recycling program in the USA in 2008. The program has expanded to Canada, and Monod Sports is proud to be one of the authorized drop-off locations. This program accepts any brand of dynamic climbing ropes, whether they are dirty, damaged, or simply ready to retire.

How to Participate

Accepted Ropes:

  • All dynamic climbing ropes used for rock or ice climbing made of Nylon 6 or Nylon 66.
  • Any brand of dynamic rope is accepted.
  • Please note that non-nylon ropes, polyester static ropes, polyester semi-static (low elongation) ropes, marine or hemp ropes, and ropes made of mixed materials are not accepted.
  • Ensure your ropes are coiled or bound (not flaked or loose) before dropping them off.

Drop-Off Location:

  • Bring your coiled ropes to Monod Sports in Banff, AB.
  • Look for the Sterling Rope Monster Box inside our store.

Why Recycle Your Climbing Ropes?

  • Environmental Impact: Nylon, a type of plastic, does not break down easily. Recycling helps keep it out of landfills.
  • Resource Efficiency: Recycling reduces the need for new petroleum-based materials by reusing existing ones.
  • Repurposing Old Ropes: Your old ropes can be transformed into items like dog leashes, bag handles, straps, and more. They can also be melted or ground down into nylon pellets to be turned into carpet fibers, fleece, skateboards, and dog toys.

How Sterling Ropes Recycles

Once collected, the ropes are sent to Sterling's recycling partner in Toronto, ON. There, the ropes are processed into new products like toys and carpet fibers, ensuring they contribute to a more sustainable future.
